Fable: The Journey Box Art revealed!

Maybe this isn’t the biggest news for all our fans out there, but it is a big moment for the development team.  The box art signifies that we are working on a game now that will appear in shops all over the world and this is how you are going to spot Fable: The Journey in local retailers. Needless to say we are very proud of it!  If you own a Kinect – or are planning on buying one in the near future – and you are a gamer who doesn’t want to jump around their living room, then this is the game to look out for.  Today we are revealing the box art for Fable: The Journey in all its glory.

 

A couple of weeks ago we had a wall-sized print put up in the Lionhead Studios lobby which makes it looks very impressive!  We’ll take a picture this afternoon and post it on our Twitter @LionheadStudios.

    That box art is beautiful… the image is dramatic and powerful…  not to mention mysterious, everything I expect from Fable games.
    But why oh why … can FEM-Hero never make the cover??  Granted, in the first game, there was no Fem-Hero… she didn’t appear til Fable 2, granted, but since then, she’s been at the core of my game experience.  And I have to pause to translate the picture.   Would it not be twice as nice to have a reversible cover page… one side with each hero?  Assuming she is in the game… IS THERE A FEMALE CHARACTER OPTION?

      There is no Fem-hero in this Fable. The main character is Gabriel.

        Okay… I can deal with that  =-)  I’m sure she’ll be back in Fable 4…  Gabriel is pretty enough, it works.  ;-) 
        Anyway, my favorite game featured Raz… (Psychonauts).  I can still love it.  =-)  Variety is good.

    That’s some awesome art. Ignore what people say on this, If you think you’ve made a good Kinect game, that’s awesome. So far i’m yet to see one that has  been interesting and i’m sure you understand that is probably the reason people get worked up about it. Anyway, good luck with the release!

    why don’t you make another Fable for PC i loved playind Lost Chapters and Fable 3. I really would like to play another part. I just don’t wanna have a XBox.

    To be honest, if you want the Fable gamers to buy this, you really are going to have to make a demo. Too many companies nowadays want us gamers to part with money on a whim, and they expect us to trust them.  Demo Please.

      Yeah. If some people’s fears, gimmickyness, on rails gameplay and such, aren’t true, a demo would be the perfect way to show it.

    I must say I’m liking it. People need to stop being so serious about what Lionhead does and doesn’t do. I think we all know that we will eventually get another controller based Fable, but it’s all about patience.

    Lower Sales I would guess are likely if it’s Kinect only.
    Maybe this is a game to improve Kinect sales and pick up the ball thats been dropped.

    I love Fable. But every game developer should have realized by now that kinect is a stupid gimmick that is going to do nothing but repel people from your game. I was really exited. But now I am not. I don’t want to buy an expensive gimmick dongle that I am not going to use simply to play your one game. Sorry.

    I really do like the look of the game. But for me, i like the fact i can use a controller with Fable in the past games, thats what makes it more enjoyable, so wouldn’t it be great if you could put the kinect as just an option, like forza 4 does, so then the people that want to try it with kinect, can do so, and the people that want to play with the controller, can again do so. It’s a win, win situation, then everybodys happy and believe me, i think you would get more sales because of it. 

    I am a HUGE fan of fable, i never get tired of it, and love replaying the games. But if you keep this game as just a kinect option, i think it may kill Fable, which i am sorry to say.

      What gamelay we’ve seen so far seems pretty hard to fit a controller into. It’s not a total win-win situation when you lose time and resources that could’ve been spent elsewhere.

      I believe that as amazing as Lionhead team is, money always seems to be the killer. I think they are going to keep expanding their options and Fable will never be like it was. It is heartbreaking.

    I think the artwork and visual I.D. looks great; very striking! Jo Chen has created an amazing image and very much in the spirit of the previous fables too.

    i agree with you ( patrick hales) it does suck that it is for the kinect, was really excited when i saw that it was coming out. but now i will have to wait longer to be able to play this game because i do not own the kinect yet and i was really hopeing that it would be a controller game like the others.

    I was looking forward to the new Fable game but if it’s Kinect only then I won’t be buying it. I love the Fable series so this is a disappointment to me. If it’s made with Kinect as an option then I will buy it but I refuse to buy the Kinect just to play the new Fable. Guess I will continue replaying Fable 3 till another controller orientated Fable comes out.

    I have to say when i saw that the next fable was coming out i got extremely excited, but i cant afford to buy a kinect and nor do i want to with the problems it has. You should make it so that you can use a Kinect but you can also use a controller.  Come on Lionhead i have been a fan of your games since before you put out black and white. Get back in gear and forget this Kinect.

      Nope, sadly not :/. Kinect is only for the Xbox (as far as I know), so you can’t play it on the pc.

    I dont have the kennect.  and the only games I play on my xbox are the fable series and NFS… I guess Fable 4 isnt on my wish list if the only way I can play it is with KENNECT…

      well, you’re lucky that this is not fable 4, but just a spin-off… Fable 4 has not yet been announced, and it probably won’t be for KInnect.

      Ftj has been designed to be played while sitting on a chair, using your hands, voice and tilting your body. You needn’t jump or make flic-flac’s to play the game. *Note: this is the case for most kinect games atm. If you somehow cannot, or just don’t like playing whilst standing, kinect might not be a smart purchase.

      Exactly. I’ve been a fan since the first, I buy pretty much all Fable Merchandise because I love the series, not just for gameply, but how rich it is in story and lore. I’m open to new ideas. Fable has changed loads over the years but I love every installment for something different that makes it memorable.

    I am actually looking forward to the game. I am an avid fan of the Fable series and I like that this version will be more interactive, like you really are the hero of the story. There isn’t any reason to dislike a game because you don’t want to move around while you play, that is just sheer laziness.

      People may not enjoy gameplay that involves moving around.  Buttons and joysticks are incredibly sensitive and allow a person to really master control of the game.  But motion sensor gaming is very squishy and loose.

    If you are doing what I think you’re doing by combining Kinect and Fable together…. making actions in the game controlled with your hands and stuff… I might just have to get myself a Kinect!

    I am a HUGE Fable Fan.. and So is my 11 yr old daughter but we dont have Kinect and the fact that we would have to get it and learn how to use it Just to play this one really sucks :( Can you make it an Option instead of a requirement?

    Its not about being lazy.. some of us have to live on a Budget. We are a Military family and we dont make alot of money. Also it seems unfair to have to pay what will probably be about $60 for a game then what another $100 for the controller :(

    Wow thanks for ditching your true fans with this kinect technology.  Im on a list of over a million people who wait patiently for the release of Fable titles every couple years. To see this title gives me nothing but doubt and worry that I will not see a controller playable Fable game for atleast another 2 years. Thats if the kinect doesnt get in the way of the controller. Peter Molyneux I am surprised that you left out the classic gamer by picking up a double standard in the game industry.  I will never quit being a Fable fan, but I’m afraid I will become a bitter A-hole when the topic of Lionhead studios branches off into the deep end of new technology BS, while leaving true classic gamer fans in the ditch. Please dont leave us in the waiting room for too long Lionhead,……its just not right.

    OH, AND BTW….I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS NEW FABLE TITLE.

      Funny how there’s always people like you who think they’re the true Fable fans, and others who do like this game or any other than the first one are not. It’s pretty sad. Don’t like it, don’t buy it, it’s not that hard.

      Like the boxart, probably fun to play too (yes I for one do like kinect). Great work.

    i just hope they did not kill the emotion and stuff, I like in fable 2 how u could just grab a big group of ppl and hold ur trophy in the air and  play the lute and stuff like that and u could PICK what emotion u wanted to do not have to dance with everyone ugh, idk i’m still going to get the game but maybe it might not be as much fun cus u need ALOT  more room to play and u cant just sit down relax after a hard day and play some fable u have to be on ur feet more

    I agree with everyone that says that the first fable game IS the best… But i am still positive and i think the fable franchise can recover the greatness of the first fable or become even better, a lot of people say that lionhead is taking the wrong path with fable: the journey and fable heroes. Before saying some awful things about the new fable games i think the people should play them!!! Lionhead… a lot of people is angry since Fable III wasn’t as good as the other fable games, you should do something… I think you should make these kinect and arcade games (experiment with diferent kinds of games) but also do games like before… like fable I and TLC, With LOTS of spells, extra missions, bosses, a big variety of creatures and the other stuff that the fable fans like, I think a “Pre-franchise” will be awesome.

    Its a fablely cover same art style just tweak a bit. Tatered spire in the background with dark swirly clouds and ominous red glow of doom, gives it a nice touch.

    Does Lionhead even listen to their fans anymore? I swear, Fable and TLC are some of my favorite games on the Xbox, but they keep dumbing the franchise down to this pandering, kiddy bullshit. MAKE A GOOD GAME, I KNOW YOU GUYS CAN.

      Good thing you speak for all the fans. It’d be pretty chaotic if we were in a fanbase that consisted of individuals with different tastes and opinions, who wouldn’t agree on the flavor of sugar. That’d be a bit like the fable fanbase, now I think about it.

    Can you please start developing the Fables like Fable 1? The art style that has developed from Fable 1 is nice, it just needs more trolls, plate armours and chunky melee weapons. I even enjoyed the GUI for Fable 1, it didn’t seem so primitive as the last two games. Its nice to see the Lava troll make an appearance in the Heroes promo and I hope to see them in Fable IV, along with more heroes and diversity in armours :D

    Great artwork! I kinda want it as a poster… Is that possible? Anywho, even after watching the trailer, I’m still hesitant on how this game will play. Will there be a demo version on xbox live? Also what is the estimated price for this game? Honest I don’t think it’s worth $60 if that is their plan.

     Has a release date been set for this?  Last I heard was September but I don’t think that was a definite.  I have been resisting, but I’ll probably end up looking for a second-hand Kinect to try to this out if it isn’t too expensive.  The combination of it being a Kinect game and having no Reaver (I am assuming, since this is supposedly more ‘family friendly’) reduces the amount I am willing to lay out for this game.  I never get sick of Stephen Fry in this series.

    I don’t think this will kill Fable.  By the time the actual Fable 4 comes out I think people will have gotten over whatever they don’t like about this.  I do hope Fable 4 is a controller based game though, which I *think* is what they are planning.

    I Have Kinect, but i havent used it in over a year, and i dont currently own any Kinect based games because i dont enjoy them, really was a waste of money, controller is the way to go!

    I really love the fable series, it was the first game series that got me into action rpg’s. But fable 3 was a disappointment and I’d rather you work on a 4th installment take a few years. develop the moral choice to the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I am looking forward to it. you have a loyal fan base. Peter is gone now and there is no need for an aggressive ad campaign . Be humble and make a truly spectacular game. We as fans know you can do it as you have done it before with black and white and fable 1,2.

    I would like it if you made separate fable games that go back before fable one or a fable that takes palaces in the same time as fable 3 but where you meet the hero of okvall and you rebuild the giuld. you could have Jake of balds return and have  the spire ware Teresa is to claps and fall and you have to make a choose to follow Tresa or the hero of okvall. then I think you should have more spells like you do in fable one.you should have armor and bows if you do this the game could be called Fable3 the return of the hero guild. dont tell me there all ready a fable 3 i know that this would be a remake

    Lionhead listens to gamer feedback… and even if everyone was as negative as you are about this game, then its still not that easy to abandon a game that is already in progress…

     just use the ui from fable 3 . im sure its not going to be that hard. seriously the kinect is flawed . ive seen it not work in a perfect sized room cause of the type of flooring. it is a waste of time gimmick .  and i will be sad i cant play this as the kinect doesnt work well in house in any room we try. might work in american houses as the ceilings are higher .  and rooms are much bigger than english houses. im sure its going to look beautiful . but it does need a pad option. as sophie said dont do all your games with kinect as the kinect popularity is dropping if you do your research

    Well, heroes isn’t for kinect if that’s any comfort. Sat-on gameplay might also help with your room issue, but I would heavly advice against buying it without knowing it works.

    I have an “English House” what ever that means, and a council house at that. Kinect works fine in my very avarage size living room. thing is there just not that mant reason to play it at the moment. but hopefully Fable will be one. Kinect gets so much hate yet its amazing tech with a very long future, already announced that next-gen xbox’s will impliment kinect. so get used to it. they released the tech before they knew what to do with it, hence no good software this IS changing.

    i really dont know how you can say American house’s are bigger than English one’s, thats really, really (want to add another “really”, but wont) dumb…

    and you cant add a controller option for The Journey, have you even seen any videos of the gameplay? i doubt so if you think a controller optuion would work. ergo, your judgeing a game you havent even seen.

    i dont have massive hopes for this game, but its by far the most promsing thing on Kinect yet.

    Also Lionhead answers to microsft, so they basicly made them make a Kinect game.

    Fable 3 was pretty bad anyway, so dumbed down and easy. no customisatiobn, poor advancement system, they need to change the fact you cant die aswell.

    i will defintly give The Journey a go. fingers crossed, but dont exactly consider it Faith. its more hope than faith.
