Lionhead: In the news

Well, it’s been a busy couple of days here at Lionhead HQ. We’ve seen a new website, more info on Fable: The Journey and the announcement of Fable Heroes. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the awesome things that the press are saying about us, and as a special treat, here’s an interview with Peter talking about Journey…

One of the messages Molyneux wants to convey the The Journey is the sense of discovery, something that he firmly believes has long been lost with traditional video game controllers. It’s not surprising then that you’d certainly need a media/consumer volunteer to experience this game first hand in order to make The Journey convincing.

He’s taking this philosophy to the next level with 2012′s Fable: The Journey, an action/role-playing game that uses the Xbox 360′s motion-sensing Kinect to, well, connect the player to the world in his television set

Imagine Fable re-built as a Gauntlet-style co-op dungeon crawler, with cartoon visuals, bags of humour and a neat sideline in moral consequence. That’s Fable Heroes [...] It is absolutely as fun as it sounds, especially in split-screen local multiplayer, which captures those riotous Gauntlet sessions of old.

Fable: The Journey certainly looks impressive.

So, will there be no more Fable games for 360 controller usage?

  • Ales84

Months of silence to reappear with the ridiculous Fable the Journey and Fable Heroes.
Where are Fable 4 and new IP AAA for 360 controller??

fable 1 was really the badass
of the series, fable 2 had its good points, but this looks. meh. id do a
3rd person game if i were you guys, and id really like you to move away
from fable, seems you have lots of potential, but you stick with this
franchise, that kinda got ruined by yourselves, seems most people play them
cause most of em loved the first.(my opinion)

No offense people, but we want a proper fable game. I love the series but have no interest in rail games for kinect. I hope theres atleast a good reason for no more proper fable games… such as a xbox 720 game is in development. If that is the case…CARRY ON!

    • FableRocks

there is a 720 game supposed to be in the works following the Original bloodline like I, II and III. Don’t remember where I read it but I know i did, I remember being pissed cause I really don’t want to have to buy another system concidering Fable is the only game I really play on XBox

      • http://twitter.com/MrXBob MrXBob

Just want to point out that the console will not be called 720. Ever. :)

2 things it is not a on rail game and there is no announcement for fable 4 or the Xbox 720

personally i didn’t like what u guys did to the shops in fable 3, if you do make another fable, id like the shops to go back to how it was in either first fable or the second fable. as well as more hidden areas to unlock.

The fact remains Fable is a game about exploration and adventure, And to be painfully truthful you lose those concepts when you keep exploring the same region. What Fable needs is a new world, not getting rid of Albion but expanding on it. To put it in perspective Albion is like England, small, Explored, and Developed. In essence it needs an “America” (By no means patriotic here..) a new world, untouched by industry and corruption but teeming with natural beauty. That sense of new and exotic makes someone want to explore. And Lionhead if you like that idea I would be more than happy to expand on it. A fan Since Fable 1- Scopy

    • Jadis232

Wasn’t that the point of Aurora?

    • Nícolas Valle Silva Pinheiro

      South America all the way.

  • Drakinian

To all of you who want a fable IV.
I can understand that you all want fable IV to come soon… but try to understand Lionhead, it must become boring to do the same thing over and over again… everytime that same fighting game… I can imagine that they would like to do something else for a change… And who knows, perhaps something good will come out of this :) . And in time, Fable IV will come as well :) .

Molyneux’s discussion about an emotional connection with the horse has got me on board with The Journey. That’s the selling factor that was missing for me before. A sense of adventure would also be a selling factor, but until I’ve seen footage that genuinely demonstrates that the game is open world and not on-rails, or at the very least a corridor driven RPG like Dragon Age, then I’ll stick to Elder Scrolls titles for a true sense of adventure.

Hopefully this will rekindle hope in the Fable franchise, and provide an entertaining break from the numbered series. I honestly think people’s memories of Fable 2 would be fonder if the dog hadn’t been copy/pasted into 3. Leaving it in 2 would have made it a defining and loveable aspect of that game. As it stands, 2 and 3 are now far too similar, and 3 introduced an inventory that essentially amounted to a cursor that took 30 seconds to move from the ‘weapons’ list to the ‘items’ list.

If there’s one thing to take away from recent events in the RPG industry it’s this: Skyrim is an immensely huge and, at first, overwhelming role playing game. It has complex mechanics, a list-based inventory system, and a massive world filled with rich lore. It’s probably sold more copies than all the Fable games combined. Gamers don’t want a simple and streamlined RPG. We love complexity and open worlds. Give us the tools we need, and we will carve our own great gameplay experiences. Just like you did with Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper and Syndicate – give us a huge sandbox in Fable 4, with plenty of tools for us to do with as we please, and you’ll have a fantastic game on your hands. Worry less about simplicity and accessibility, and more about choice and an open-world approach.

only comment worth reading on here.

      here is my 2 cents:
I have played fable since day 1. I loved the first, like everyone else. But what it had differently then the rest where small side tasks that kep the game going. Things like the bare knucle fighting, also being able to pick your own title. Its just little things like that make a game so much more well rounded. When fable 2 first came out i was a little skeptical. I played it and i loved it too. not as much as the first, but it still loved it. And i would go back and play it today. it had a lot of great elements and concepts in it. There was just more game there. The spire was great. But as for fable 3, there wasnt enough for me to sink my teeth in. There wasnt any replay ablility there was in 1 and 2. And unlike a lot of people. I realise this new kinect game is just for the kinect and im cool with that.

All im saying is for Fable 4. i hope you guys turn around what peter messed up. Now that he is gone you guys can go back to doing what you do best, and thats develope a great game. Idc how long it takes. Ive waited 10 years for d3 to come out. haha. I can wait a few years for fable 4. Just putting my 2 cents in aa a fellow gamer who has been with the franchise for years.

if you wont to feel real  emotion play mass effect 3.

The new site’s looking pretty good and while ‘Fable Heroes’ isn’t really my cup of tea… well, it would appear that way at least, I do think it looks and feels pretty good. Solid idea. Not really a ‘fable game’ as I’d call it, but still works, I think, in a weird way. I guess that’s the point.

As far as Journey goes, keep at it. I still believe you got something there, now I just hope you manage to pull it off. I’m thinking… “Uncharted: You got Dysentery”

Also… sell it, Peter, sell it! On the other hand, he’s not entirely just talking either, I believe.

  • DanLowers

Don’t assume that because there is currently no “proper” fable game in the works, that there never will be. It annoys me to see the arrogance of consumers assuming they know Lionhead’s every move. I think the Journey and Heroes look good. Very different, but good. It’s time for something fresh before reverting back to the original formula.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=707964579 Joshua James

In my eyes i’m happy not to see a Fable IV yet. I would much rather wait for a well polished and finished title, and maybe on a new console as an added bonus.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bobby-Russell/1443984039 Bobby Russell

Here’s hoping that the next Fable will take a lesson from the first and second games. And lets see it make LESS slapstick humor ( and less chickens. they are NOT “funny and random”) I’m not saying they should get rid of humor all together, I mean, the first game had a more subtle approach to it. Anyway, I don’t want to start babbling haha.

Fable 1 is the best game i ever played it contained everything one’s want but you ruined our happiness and turned our smile upside down when you released fable 2 on Xbox 360 this is unfair for your fans what about a pc version and then you released fable 3 on pc well i was satisfied even thouh its nothing compared to first fable and now u punch us again by releasing the game xbox only why what about us????

  • mrhabbman

Fable: The Journey are very cool/horny

  • Jadis232

Well I think it looks amazing, just like any other game people are skeptical and judging it to early. Im happy with the fact that we get to see Albion in first person, and get to know more about Theresa. That being said we’ll see how it turns out, but Im confident.

  • dakotaettin

fable needs to cut all of this “cute” crap and go back to its roots.

  • Offworlder1

They need to give the rights to “Fable” to someone who isn’t going to crap all over it, Lionhead knows the fans hate the new “ideas” as this is ever farther removed from Fable 1 and its too much of a joke.

Fable 1 had humor that worked, Fable 2 even had humor that was ok but pushing it, Fable 3 its not funny at all no one is laughing at this stupid BS.

Listen to the fans, stop making garbage the fans don’t want, hell Fable 3 took so much away I’m not surprised this “point and click” game “Fable:The Journey” is coming out.

  • Ingo H. Bulla

So at last Peter Molyneux quit. Will we ever have Fable 4? And what about a new DLC for Fable 3? There`s so much place in the game, so many closed doors and streets blocked by boulders…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000275854203 Conor Dunk

What will happen to fable now Peter Molyneux has left lionhead. :(

  • Fenrakk101

Could you please at least fix Fable 3? I’m not starting the game over from the start just for the Set Them Free! achievement…

  • LordMalic

after watching this i have to admit i feel better about the game and may even think about playing it

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001048942142 Max McNally Hodgson

lmao the way he talks made me think he has a cult and is going to make me drink punch with cyanide in it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/indianahansen Harold Hansen

Who the heck is drinking a beer while the game isn’t paused or playing a cutscene?? If a player leans too hard or tries to hold the beer while holding a controller, they will spill the beer. It will happen. and if you try to address that issue, you may make the game way too sensitive to movement.
