New Fable Series of Novels & Digital Shorts

the Fable books

The Fable lore is one of the deepest, most loved and, for a lot of people, truly inspiring story line.  The world of Albion is filled with whispers of old adventures, Heroes & Heroines and times gone by. Unfortunately the Tales of Albion documents caught fire a few years ago and its remaining ashes are now stored in Lionhead’s memorabilia cabinet. We will piece them together one day…

Since then we’ve had the pleasure to read two great stories set in the Fable universe; Fable: The Balverine Order and Fable: Blood Ties.  If you haven’t read them yet, you can find more details and links here http://lionhead.com/products-page/books/.

Today we received news that there are more stories on the way!  Especially in light of Fable: The Journey, the Kinect adventure set to take you on a trip through Albion, this is huge news for all Fable fans!

Official press release:

NEW YORK, NY, April 5, 2012 – Lionhead Studios and the Random House Publishing Group and Prima Games—divisions of Random House, Inc—announced today an agreement to create a broad line of products set to expand the universe of Fable, the multimillion copy selling series of video games.

The agreement will support the release of the upcoming games Fable: The Journey as well as Fable: Heroes, and will encompass two novels, multiple digital shorts, a comprehensive world bible, and a strategy guide.  The first novel, FABLE: AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD, written by New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden, will bridge the events of Fable III and the upcoming Fable: The Journey, and is scheduled to release in August 2012.

Releasing prior to the novel’s publication, and closely-timed to the release of Fable: Heroes, will be three digital shorts written by bestselling author Peter David, focusing on key characters from the Fable universe.  Each short will be available on all major e-reading platforms, and release as follows:

FABLE: REAVER – May 2012
FABLE: JACK OF BLADES – May 2012
FABLE: THERESA– June 2012

More details on the content and publication dates of the second novel—and on the Fable: Journey Prima strategy guide—will be revealed in the coming months.

In addition, Random House Worlds, the Random House Publishing Group’s intellectual property creation and development group, will develop the internal IP bible for the Fable universe. The bible will be a living document that will cover all previously-released Fable products and serve as a comprehensive reference for any creators working in the Fable world.

“There are so many components of this collaboration that are exciting to us,” said Keith Clayton, associate publisher of Del Rey and creative director at Random House Worlds. “Working closely with Lionhead and Prima, we have a consistent content strategy that starts with the Fable IP bible and leads directly to the release of high-quality Fable products, in both the physical and digital space.”

“The Fable canon – the stories, characters and gameplay that we’ve crafted for many years, is near and dear to the hearts of our loyal fans and the employees at Lionhead Studios,” said Gareth Sutcliffe, business manager for Lionhead Studios. “We believe Random House Worlds will do an excellent job representing our storied franchise and creating assets our fans will find highly valuable.”

Ey, novel about Reaver? HELL YEAH :D And Theresa!!! And JAck of Blades? Cool :)

    • DETHACE713

Actually they’re not novels the summary said “digital shorts”, in other words short animations which I’m guessing will use the hero doll versions of the characters to promote the new game.

This is awesome news! Great to see the lore being added to, it’s something i felt has been avoided for a while. :D

Poor Tales of Albion. But most (not quite all) of it can be read still at Fable Wiki, painstakingly transcribed for those who did not have Silverlight by those that did.

    • captainPATstarr

  • Ben Steed

    • Drakinian

      Calm down calm down! :D
Repeating the same question over and over looks a bit silly ;) .

As for your question, I don’t know, but there are severall other books based on games (like severall books about mass effect). And there are also these two other books about fable… if you can discover wether either of Fable: Blood Ties or Fable: The Balverine Order is in french or not, you might have your answer.

  • koolsamarkand

Sounds like JoB may be making a return then? And maybe we will finally have a difficult boss again?

  • captainPATstarr

I will be interested to see how these will expand the Fable universe.  I myself have been writing a Fable cartoon.  I hope to go to school in the fall to improve my writing skills.  Blending the lore that was already created with the characters and regions that I’ve come up with is very important.  I love the Fable art style.  It would look great in a cartoon.

  • RagdollHero

Great news. Hope that ’major e-reading platforms’ for the short stories include Kindle; still waiting for Blood Ties to be released on there.
The IP bible sounds very interesting; but will this be a physical or digital release? This isn’t very clear to me?
