Fairly big words but it’s pretty much what went through my mind when seeing people’s confusion on the matter of pre-ordering the game. Since we released the Fable III Villager Maker – couple of weeks ago now – a big bunch of people have been contacting us about the pre-order code and how to get hold of one as soon as possible! It’s very nice to know we have such eager Fable III fans!
Questions such as; why am I not getting one (a pre-order code) from my local retailer, which shops are participating, am I missing something or doing something wrong, can you help? These are very common concerns and I hope some of the following will ease your minds and give you a better of idea of how it all works.
First of all; it is early days and some shops we definitely know are on board and will send pre-order codes might not have updated their website(s) yet. The ones which have been updated all have the same blurp, reading:
Pre-order Fable III and gain access to the all-new character creator tool, called the “Fable III Villager Maker”. Fans who pre-order the game will receive a code (when they become available) and can create and bring their personalised villager to life. Your custom in-game villager will deliver to your hero a thrilling new quest and 1,000 gold fortune, and then continue to interact with you on your journey to become ruler of Albion
The Villager Maker is available for everyone to access and experiment with at www.xbox.com/fable3, however, you will have to use your Pre-Order code to import your villager into Fable III. Fans can utilise the tool to create a male or female villager with more than 2,000 different variations, including an enthralling back-story for the character, unique personality traits, clothing, accent, hairstyles and the region they hail from. Whether you create a valiant ally, an evil villain, or perhaps the perfect spouse, let your imagination run free as you make your mark in the fantastical world of Fable III
Some very important words in that little blurp, “when they become available” is just a few of them! Some retailers might only send out the codes on the day of release, which means you still have to pre-order now to get one, but will receive it at the same time as the game (the Villager Maker will still be available then of course!).
Another important one is a comment from Peter in USA Today:
With pre-orders, he says, customers “can change their mind at any time. That $5 is like a deposit for any game in the store, not just your game. But the industry takes an enormous indication behind pre-orders. I thought there must be a design thing we can do around that.”
All that is left to know now is where to pre-order and which retailers are participating so you can get a code and a custom villager! Here is an incomplete list (subject to change) in random order of the shops:
